Donna Olimpia 1898

Among the Mediterranean settings of the Bolgheri area, where the Mediterranean scrub is traversed by the delicate breezes coming from the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Donna Olimpia 1898 winery produces and vinifies some of the most enveloping expressions of the Livorno coastline, faithfully expressing a territory that has now become established for the production of great interpretations of international style. Founded in 2001 from an intuition of Guido Folonari, belonging to one of the prominent Italian winemaking families, it sets the ambitious goal of expressing a prestigious terroir through its bottles.

The Donna Olimpia 1898 winery in Bolgheri is named after the Lady of Biserno, Olimpia Alliata, as well as the wife of Gherardo della Gherardesca, who, in 1898, on the occasion of their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, dedicated the estate's name to her. Its vineyards extend over approximately 45 hectares, all entirely included in the DOC Bolgheri, where the flat morphology directly benefits from the beneficial marine influence, and from which grapes are obtained for a winemaking aimed at excellence and absolute quality of the product, where the continuous search for improvement plays a fundamental role in the winery's philosophy.

The wine production area of Donna Olimpia 1898 extends parallel to the northern Maremma coast, between the municipalities of Castagneto Carducci and Bibbona, where a slight hilly undulation protects agricultural productions from the cold winter winds coming from the inland. This relief is also fundamental in summer, when it acts as a corridor for the cool winds coming from the sea that are necessary for the mitigation of high coastal temperatures, giving the grapes slow and homogeneous ripening that provides the clusters with a perfect balance between sugars, aromas, polyphenols, and acidity. Given these prerogatives, international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Syrah are able to best develop their intensity, making the labels of Donna Olimpia 1898 some of the most balanced and elegant expressions of the renowned Bolgheri territory.
