Faccoli

Faccoli is a family-run sparkling wine business located in the municipality of Coccaglio, at the foot of Monte Orfano, on the southwestern side of the Franciacorta territory. The origins of the winery date back to 1963, when Lorenzo Faccoli, a farmer on Lake Iseo and son of a farmer, started a small wine production intended for sale in demijohns as bulk wine. Shortly thereafter, in the 1970s, Franciacorta sparkling wines began to gain popularity, prompting Lorenzo to focus primarily on sparkling wine production. In the 1980s, Lorenzo's two sons, Gian Mario and Claudio Faccoli, both in their twenties, took over, with Gian Mario managing the vineyards and Claudio responsible for the commercial aspect. The two began to produce and market sparkling wines without using any liqueur, following their own taste and seeking a dry and powerful style, which remains a distinctive feature of the estate. In the following years, there were numerous investments in the vineyard and winery, with 2000 marking the first year in which production focused exclusively on bubbles. Fundamental was then the contribution of Stefania, Claudio's wife, who today supports Gian Mario and her husband along with their children Francesca and Giorgio, the latest generation to join the family business.

The Faccoli family estate covers a total of 11 hectares, half of which is reserved for woods and the other half for vineyards, planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, and Pinot Nero. These traditional varieties of the area are grown on the characteristic soil that distinguishes the Monte Orfano area, composed of a conglomerate of clastic sedimentary rock made up of gravel and pebbles, cemented together by quartz-calcarenitic sands. Each parcel is vinified separately in steel tanks, and after the sparkling process, which takes place in the bottle according to the Classic Method, the sparkling wines rest on the lees for a minimum of 18 months up to as much as 10 years for the most prestigious selections.
