Jean-Claude Mas

Paul Mas is today one of the symbolic realities of the wine renaissance in Languedoc, thanks to the pioneering vision of its founder back in 1892, Jean-Claude Mas, often defined as part of the “New wave” of French wines. Born in Pézenas, into a family with deep agricultural roots, Jean-Claude has been able to transform the family legacy into a modern and international project, capable of restoring dignity to a historic region like Languedoc, where vines have been cultivated for over 2000 years. After studying economics and communication, gaining professional experience in various countries, and a decisive meeting with winemaker Giorgio Grai, Jean-Claude decided to return to the land and create the first family blends at the Nicole estate. Since 2000, the Paul Mas brand has officially been born, which will soon become a reference point for wines from southern France, able to combine identity, quality, and international vision.

The work in the Paul Mas vineyards follows a strongly sustainable approach: today the company has 950 cultivated hectares, of which 40% is organic and 60% is under integrated farming. The philosophy is focused on observing nature and strengthening the natural balance of the vines, starting from the soil as the key element for the health of the plant. Biodiversity is encouraged right from the cuttings, and treatments are minimized to promote natural resistance to diseases. In the winery, the focus is on sustainability and innovation: projects are underway for water recovery, energy autonomy, and even for the integration of artificial intelligence tools, always with people at the center. Winemaking remains a handcrafted process aimed at creating authentic, exciting wines that are true to the territory, following the dream of producing “the perfect wine”.

The wines of Jean-Claude are designed to evoke emotions, to tell the story of the land, and to reflect the idea of “rural luxury” that guides him: simplicity, authenticity, and respect. Today, with over two decades of work, Paul Mas is not just a successful company, but an authoritative voice for the future of wine in Languedoc, committed every day to reinventing tradition with intelligence, respect, and passion.
