Mecella Enzo

Enzo Mecella's vocation is fundamentally that of a selector. He indeed feels fully like a "negociant eleveur", an expression that in French refers to the winemaker who takes care of his own vineyards from the roots to the bottles, trying to select the best qualities of grapes with excellent results within the vast vineyards on the hills of Marche. It is the town of Fabriano that welcomes the origins of this winery, founded by Enzo's father, Marsilio, over 50 years ago, among the gentle hills of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines. It was Marsilio who started this production, always aiming for great quality, sometimes shunning commercial directives to favor the continuous search. In 1977, his son Enzo took the reins of the business, bringing his histrionic personality to make significant changes, including the pioneering use of barrique for aging. Currently, Michele is following in his father's footsteps, bringing a breath of novelty to the family business.

the winery of Enzo Mecella enjoys the typical climate that distinguishes the Marche hinterland, mainly continental, characterized by quite rigid winters and hot summers with rather marked night temperature excursions. The Giano stream, which crosses these territories, increases humidity making the climate particularly suitable for vine cultivation. The harvest is done manually, with a selection of grapes with high sugar content. The alcoholic fermentation is initiated exclusively by indigenous yeasts, which maintain the strong expressiveness of the land of origin, with its aromas and nuances. The grape varieties used are also exclusively indigenous, such as Verdicchio, Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, and Montepulciano.

The great territorial expressiveness, the continuous search for perfection and distinction make the winery of Enzo Mecella a great source of pride for Marche. Its labels are characterized by a rather persistent sugar content and a good warmth that enhances the varietal aromas of its glasses, keeping them over time. The use of grapes cultivated with low environmental impact with over 50 years of age for the production of "Sainale", ensures the establishment of a rather vast and full-bodied taste panorama, with a singular warmth and particularly clear hints of exotic fruit. The "Pagliano" stands out for its almond notes accompanied by a pleasant savoriness that makes the drinking experience particularly enjoyable. It is now up to Michele to demonstrate what these gentle Apennine lands can offer us.
