Pol Roger
The Maison Pol Roger, thanks to its 170 years of history and a range of exceptional quality labels, is among the most esteemed and well-known in the world. Its headquarters, not by chance, is located in Épernay, considered the capital of Champagne. It all began back in 1849, when Pol Roger started selling the first bottles. The small family business quickly developed and moved from its hometown of Ay to Épernay in 1851. From the very beginning, the Maison specialized in the production of Champagne Brut, a type particularly loved by the English who are accustomed to a dry taste. The prodigious success was put at risk in 1900 when part of the cellars suffered severe damage due to a building collapse. Many bottles in aging and many barrels with precious reserve wines were lost.
However, the Maison quickly recovered, but soon had to face the crisis caused by World War I, then that of Prohibition and the Wall Street crash, and finally World War II.Worldwide. After the war, the Maison Pol Roger rose to new life, also strong from the preference for its Champagne expressed by Winston Churchill, who would give his name to the famous cuvée born in 1975. Since 2018, the Maison has been led by Damien Cambres, who continues the activity with the utmost respect for a tradition that has made the brand famous all over the world. Thanks to a savoir-faire passed down from generation to generation and to the highest quality grapes from prestigious areas of Champagne, Pol Roger continues to represent a symbol of elegance and class.
The Pol Roger Champagnes are indeed known for their refinement and purity, which arise from long experience and very rigorous production protocols. Only the best grapes, carefully selected in the vineyard and then in the cellar, are used to create the base wines, which are vinified by single parcel and assembled into cuvée only after careful tastings. The long aging on the lees and the traditional use of very low dosage allow the wines to transparently highlight the characteristics of an extraordinary terroir. Thus, labels are born that have become true icons of the Appellation, sought after by the most demanding enthusiasts.
