Artadi
Artadi is a Spanish winery that is a pure expression of passion for the vineyard and respect for nature. Founded in 1985, it has been managed by the Lacalle y Laorden family since 1992, who were inspired by the customs of traditional agricultural practices of previous generations, with the intent of enhancing the authentic characteristics of the terroir. The estate is located in the wine-growing area of Álava, in the heart of the Sonsierra Alavesa, and has a property of 56 hectares, characterized by a remarkable diversity of soils with various geological origins. It consists of a collection of plots that make up a mosaic of vineyards mainly cultivated with the two historic grape varieties of the area, Tempranillo and Viura.
The soils are quite heterogeneous, predominantly composed of limestone, alluvial gravel, silt, and clay. Poor and draining soils, suitable for viticulture conducted with low yields per hectare. The climate is characterized by a predominantly continental regime, typical of the central regions of the Iberian Peninsula, with Atlantic and Mediterranean influences. The agronomic management is carried out in harmony with the environmental ecosystem, without any use of chemical substances and synthetic fertilizers. The land is considered a living organism to be preserved, to ensure its natural fertility. Particular attention is given to biodiversity, which, thanks to a multitude of plants, insects, and animals, enriches the environment, making it healthier and more resilient. This attention to the vineyard creates an intimate relationship between man and land, allowing the unique characteristics of each individual plot to shine through. The grapes are thus able to transparently express the character of the terroir. The wines are rich and straightforward, offering unique and original tasting sensations. The range of wines is divided into different collections. The Viñas de Gain labels primarily express the personality of the wine landscapes of Laguardia, the Sierra de Toloño, and the Sonsierra. The Vinos de Parcela, on the other hand, are made to highlight the differences and peculiarities of each individual vineyard. A modern conception that is able to meet the expectations of the most demanding connoisseurs.
