Chateau Grand Puch

Chateau du Grand Puch represents a Bordeaux reality that is a key player in a wide production that takes shape in a castle with a very ancient history, which began as far back as the 13th century. The Chateau is located in Saint-Germain-du-Puch, the municipality from which it takes its name, situated on the left bank of the Dordogne River, a few kilometers east of the city of Bordeaux. It was Monsignor Gailhard du Puch between the 13th and 14th centuries who built the castle, which in 1572 passed by marriage to the famous Ségur family, who owned it until the 19th century. After some changes of ownership, in 1889 it was Maurice Gurchy, a wealthy wine merchant, who purchased the castle at auction, investing in the planting of vineyards, the construction of cellars, and the renovation of the estate. Today, the director Jean-François Duguet and Christophe Weber, the vineyard manager, take care of the property, ensuring the preservation of a true historical and artistic treasure. In addition to wine production, which is the main activity, the estate is also dedicated to livestock farming in the adjacent farm.18th century.

The Chateau du Grand Puch estate covers an area of 190 hectares, of which about 90 are dedicated to vineyards while the remaining part is reserved for woods, fields, and meadows. The cultivated varieties are the traditional ones of Bordeaux, namely Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The vines, with an average age of about 30 years, are planted on soils consisting partly of gravel and partly of clay and limestone, in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers denomination. Following the harvest, carried out with the aid of modern harvesting machines only when the grapes have reached full ripeness, the bunches are destemmed and pressed. This is followed by parcel vinification with alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins, accompanied by 2-3 daily pump-overs aimed at extracting the noble compounds contained in the skins.
