Château Mont-Redon
In the heart of the southern Rhône Valley, Château Mont-Redon is one of the most historic and representative wineries of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The viticultural origins of the place date back to 1344, when the estate was under papal influence. The area, known then as “Mourredon”, has always been appreciated for its exceptional agricultural potential, contested over the centuries by local nobles. The current history of the estate begins in 1923, when Henri Plantin, a pioneer and visionary, recognized its unique value. He purchased the first 2.5 hectares and, with determination, began to clear the surrounding woods and plant vines on the plateau, anticipating the birth of the AOC Châteauneuf-du-Pape by over a decade. Today, Mont-Redon spans 186 hectares of vineyards, of which 100 are concentrated in the most prestigious area of the denomination, dominated by three great terroirs: rolled pebbles, sandy safres, and Urgonian limestones.
Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, with an approach that integrates tradition and environmental respect. The vines, cultivated using classic methods, benefit from the dry and breezy climate, mitigated by the powerful Mistral, and from the stone-rich soils that play a fundamental thermoregulating role for the optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest is strictly manual, followed by a winemaking process that preserves the integrity of the fruit: controlled temperature fermentations, aging in concrete or large wood, and careful management of time in the cellar allow for the expression of the wine's purity without forcing.
The production style of Mont-Redon is characterized by balance, classicism, and evolutionary capacity. The wines are a true reflection of the terroir from which they come: complex yet accessible, structured yet elegant, capable of expressing great harmony from a young age and at the same time evolving nobly over time. The blending of grapes from the different terroirs of the estate allows for the creation of consistent and recognizable labels each year, where minerality, power, and freshness blend naturally.
