Domaine Le Piton

Located in Sancerre, in the heart of the famous Loire denomination, Domaine Le Piton was founded with the aim of honoring the long-standing winemaking tradition of the area, where vines have been cultivated since at least the 6th century. This winery is particularly the result of the collaboration between the Jolivet family and the Oddo family, two important lineages in the wine world. The former leads the Pascal Jolivet estate, also located in Sancerre, while the latter owns several wine estates scattered across France and South Africa, as well as being a co-founder of the Sicilian project Serra Ferdinandea, which was born as a joint venture with the renowned local family Planeta. The name “Le Piton”, in French “the nail”, comes from the location of the vineyards, situated around the “Piton de Sancerre”, one of the highest points in the area.

The vineyards of Domaine Le Piton are spread over 8 hectares, all within the municipality of Sancerre, managed according to the principles of organic farming. Here, only Sauvignon Blanc, the flagship grape of the area, is grown on the hills located right in the vicinity.of the town of Sancerre. The altitude exceeds 300 meters above sea level while the soils are characterized by a high concentration of flint and limestone, elements that are the basis of the extraordinary mineral vein of the wines produced. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand with careful selection of the bunches, followed by their slow and gentle pressing. Subsequently, the must undergoes spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, in order to preserve the identity of the territory as much as possible, with prolonged aging always taking place in steel on the fine lees, thus increasing the complexity and structure of the wine.

The Sancerre from Domaine Le Piton, the only label produced by the winery, is appreciated for its varietal hints of citrus and white flowers, as well as for its vibrant smoky mineral character, a result of the silex matrix that characterizes the soils around the Piton de Sancerre.
