Krug

Synonym for elegance and the charm of bubbles, the Krug house is one of the most important and well-known Champagne producers in the world. The brand's origin dates back to 1843, when Joseph Krug founded his production house, giving up a glorious career that seemed already established at Jacquesson, considered at the time to be the most esteemed and important house in France. Joseph was a young German who moved from the Rhineland to Paris in search of fortune; here he found employment with the most prestigious Champagne company and soon became a partner, joining the Jacquesson family through marriage to a lady from the ruling family. The difficult decision to establish a new cellar based in Reims was driven by the desire to create the best Champagne in the world and to bring his imprint and ideas into the production processes, something that had not yet been granted to Joseph in his career. Thus, with all his ambition and obsession for the competitive world of French bubbles, Joseph, helped by his merchant friend Hippolyte de Vivès began to create a reserve of wines, each made with grapes from a distinct plot and endowed with a well-defined character. In fact, at the base of his choice was also the idea of restoring visibility to the sans année, at the expense of the millesimé that were popular at that time. Thus, his line was divided into two lines: the non-vintage, the result of the blending skills of the chef de cave, and the vintage, the result of what nature provided that year. The rest of the story is made of growing successes that led the cellar to become a monument of Champagne.

Today, the Krug cellar is led by Olivier, who represents the sixth generation of the family, but is owned by LVMH, the famous luxury group. The processing methods strictly adhere to traditional ones and the company philosophy has remained faithful to that of its illustrious founder: to express the best characteristics of the individual vineyards (over 250 parcels, including the Clos du Mesnil and Clos d’Ambonnay) and the individual vintages. The legendary Grand Cuvée bottles, the result of a twenty-year process, are indeed accompanied by vintage labels, often linked to a single vineyard or a single grape variety.

Each bottle from the Krug cellars carries a number on the label that explains the history, the season, the production, the preservation methods, and other notes on tasting and recommended pairings. Having become a symbol of luxury and the most impeccable elegance, Krug Champagne is to be counted among the best expressions of the famous French wine. Not just bubbles, but rare and unforgettable experiences.
