Malga Ribelle
The artisanal Venetian reality Malga Ribelle is committed to producing precious artisanal Prosecco Colfondo within the chosen area of this famous wine: that of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene. The soul of this estate located in Farra di Soligo is Vitale Girardi, who chose the name "Malga" to pay homage to his grandfather's activity, who owned a barn where he raised cows. Initially, Vitale's path was taking a different direction, when after completing his studies in Oenology and Agriculture he entered an important consulting firm in oenology and agronomy. However, the call of his land was too strong and pushed the producer to return to his roots, taking the reins of the family farm. Until 2017, the grapes were sold to local wineries, but Vitale decided to start his own production, linked to the traditions of the hills of Valdobbiadene. Alongside the wine, the producer is dedicated to raising cows that graze in the mountains, from which he obtains cheeses and meat, as well as fertilizer for the vineyards and the garden, in a perspective of a closed agricultural system.
In his estate Malga Ribelle, winemaker Vitale Girardi cultivates just one and a half hectares of vineyards, almost entirely dedicated to the varietal emblem of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene: Glera, accompanied by very small percentages of other native grape varieties Bianchetta, Perera, and Verdiso. These varieties are planted on very steep hilly soils, consisting of clay, sand, and limestone, rich in mineral elements and the so-called "Croda Rospera", a marine-origin rock widespread in the area. The use of synthetic chemical products is banned in the field, while in the winery fermentation occurs spontaneously. As a source of sugars for the sparkling process in the bottle, must from the same vintage is used, kept refrigerated to avoid the onset of early fermentations. Throughout the entire process, the wine does not undergo any clarification or filtration.
