Sorelle de Nicola

The Piedmontese wine reality Sorelle de Nicola – Feyles is committed to enhancing the authentic Langhe tradition, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The founders of the estate were Maria Feyles and her son-in-law Antonio de Nicola, who in 1964 acquired a vineyard plot within the municipality of Neive, in the prestigious Barbaresco area. Over the decades that followed, the vineyard park was expanded with the purchase of several parcels scattered throughout the Langhe territory, particularly in the Barolo area. Today, the estate thus has vineyards in the municipalities of Neive, where the Montesommo and Borgese plots are located, and Monforte d’Alba, with the Serra and Manzoni vineyards.

The hectares of vineyards managed by the Sorelle de Nicola – Feyles winery exceed 7, mainly dedicated to Nebbiolo, alongside other traditional varieties Dolcetto and Barbera. The use of herbicides in the vineyards is banned and, moreover, to optimize the solar exposure of the plants, the rows are tall and well spaced. The harvest is carried out by hand only when the grapes have reached full ripeness, while in the cellar the fermentations, which are entrusted solely to indigenous yeasts, are carried out in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by long macerations on the skins during which periodic pump-overs are performed. For aging, only Slavonian oak barrels of 30 or 50 hectoliters are used, thus avoiding the use of small woods that would alter the purest expression of the territory. Furthermore, enological operations are limited to the strict necessary, so as not to interfere with the natural evolution of the wines. In this perspective, any clarification or filtration process is excluded.

The expressions of the Sorelle de Nicola – Feyles winery faithfully embody the classic style of Langhe wines, from the austere elegance of Barolo to the femininity of Barbaresco, passing through the intense fruit of Dolcetto d’Alba and the full and juicy character of Barbera d’Alba. This is a small production of about 50,000 bottles per year, capable of reflecting the identity of the territory.
