Verdet Aurélien
In the landscape of talented vigneron of Burgundy, Aurélien Verdet deserves special mention, a third-generation winemaker of the family, capable of highlighting the lesser-known Hautes-Côtes de Nuits through his Pinot Noir of remarkable finesse. The Domaine, located in the municipality of Arcenant, just a ten-minute drive from the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, obtained organic certification back in 1971 with Alain, Aurélien's father, positioning itself among the very first certified wineries in the region. After working alongside the renowned producer David Duband, in 2005 Aurélien succeeded his father, continuing the family tradition through the same genuine approach. In addition to his own vineyards, the winemaker vinifies grapes grown in collaboration with local growers who share the same sustainable philosophy.
The estate of Aurélien Verdet comprises approximately 5 hectares of vineyards rooted in predominantly limestone soils. These are reserved for the traditional grape varieties of the Côte d’Or, namely Chardonnay and especially Pinot Noir, varieties cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, and the clusters of Pinot Noir are then vinified mostly whole through spontaneous fermentations in steel tanks or in concrete vats conducted exclusively by indigenous yeasts, accompanied by long macerations on the skins. The subsequent aging periods take place in small French oak barrels from Tronçais and the Vosges, and throughout the entire processing, the doses of added sulfites are very low.
The style of Aurélien Verdet aims to offer pure and elegant expressions, fresh and velvety, accessible already in youth but capable of sustaining long aging in the cellar. A fundamental premise for the vigneron is to convey the most authentic characteristics of the denomination and the individual climat worked, whether it is Hautes-Côtes de Nuits or the more prestigious AOCs of Morey-Saint-Denis,
