Bodegas del Rio

Bodegas Del Rio is configured as an Andalusian reality specialized in the production of delicious Jerez, a fortified wine also known as sherry, a word coined by the English. For a long time, the Del Rio family supplied wine to important wineries in the area, working as an “almacenista”, only to later decide to start marketing on their own. Today, the Bodega is run by the Del Rio brothers, who have taken over from their father Angel, the founder of the winery.

The vineyards of Bodegas Del Rio, spread over 7 hectares, are located near the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, just a few meters from the sea. This creates ideal conditions for the growth of Palomino Fino grapes, the only grape variety cultivated by the family, which benefits from the warm and ventilated microclimate of the area. The plants are precisely located in the pago Miraflores, considered among the most vocated in the area of Sanlucar de Barrameda. The microclimate created by the simultaneous influence of the sea and the river is ideal for the development of flor yeasts, a type of yeast that forms a veil on the surface of the wine contained in the empty barrels, a veil that to protect the liquid from uncontrolled oxidation. Furthermore, by fermenting these yeasts, they produce peculiar aromas. Once the fermentation of the flor is completed, the fortification operation is then carried out, which consists of adding a certain amount of wine alcohol, while for the actual aging, the traditional Solera method is adopted, which involves creating a battery of wooden barrels in which the vintages are assembled year after year, from the oldest to the newest, thus giving rise to a precious reserve containing dozens of different vintages.

A specialty of Bodegas Del Rio is the Jerez Manzanilla, a type of dry sherry produced exclusively in the territory of Sanlucar De Barrameda, considered among the most prestigious of the entire denomination. In addition to Manzanilla, the Del Rio family also produces Jerez of the Amontillado and Oloroso types. In general, the wines of the winery stand out for their energetic savory and marine character, as well as for their ethereal aromas characteristic of the denomination.
