Castello Tricerchi

Castello Tricerchi is a wine estate in the prestigious Montalcino area dedicated to the enhancement of Sangiovese in traditional style, with long macerations and aging in large barrels. The winery is located in the medieval castle of the same name, built along the Via Francigena in 1441 by the Tricerchi, a renowned noble family from Siena that continued and completed the construction work started by the Altesi family. Today, the castle, declared part of the Italian historical and artistic heritage, is managed by the Squarcia, direct descendants of the Tricerchi family. In particular, Emanuele and the young Tommaso Squarcia are the ones who nurture the family business while preserving the bond with tradition. Particularly evocative are the aging rooms, created through the renovation of the ancient prisons of the castle, where the wines can rest at a constant and optimal temperature all year round.

The property of Castello Tricerchi extends over 400 hectares located on the northern slope of Montalcino. Of these, 13 hectares are reserved for Sangiovese Grosso, the emblematic variety of the territory, cultivated by the family Squarcia at an altitude between 250 and 290 meters above sea level in an area characterized by significant temperature excursions between day and night. The soil is composed of clay and sand while the predominant exposure of the vineyards is north and west. In the winery, the fermentations are entrusted to indigenous yeasts and are accompanied by prolonged periods of contact between the must and the skins. As per tradition, only large Slavonian oak barrels are used for aging, containers capable of enhancing the extraordinary qualities of Sangiovese.

The production of the Ilcinese Castello Tricerchi revolves around the two expressions of Sangiovese from Montalcino: Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino. The estate's interpretation enhances the elegance and intensity of the wines from the territory, with the structure and freshness typical of the grape variety. These qualities also contribute to the exceptional longevity of the wine, especially regarding Brunello di Montalcino.
