Famille Delouvin

Through a character-driven style aimed at enhancing the identity of the Vallée de la Marne, the Famille Delouvin reality produces rather limited batches of Champagne under the status of Récoltant Manipulant. Until the 1930s, the Delouvin and Nowack families were dedicated to viticulture, selling grapes to important Maisons of Champagne. Georges Delouvin was the first to produce and market his own wines, soon followed by Fernand Nowack, both operating in the village of Vandières. The union between the two families came in 1949 with the marriage of Éliane Nowack and Pierre Delouvin, thus marking the birth of the Delouvin-Nowack Champagnes. Currently, it is the young Geoffrey Delouvin, the eleventh generation of winemakers, who continues the family business adopting a modern approach while remaining faithful to tradition. The estate of Famille Delouvin extends over just over 7 hectares of vineyards, distributed over 36 different plots within the municipality of Vandières. It mainly consists of old vines planted on hilly slopes that enjoy a south and southeast exposure and a great pedological heterogeneity, with soils ranging from clay to sand, passing through limestone and outcropping gypsum. In this environmental context, Geoffrey Delouvin mainly cultivates Pinot Meunier, a variety closely linked to the Vallée de la Marne, accompanied by Chardonnay and small percentages of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Petit Meslier. The approach in the field is based on conscientious agronomic management aimed at promoting the health of the soil and plants. The vinifications take place separately by variety and plot, mostly in stainless steel tanks without carrying out malolactic fermentation. For some labels, the vintage wine is then added with a percentage of perpetual reserve started in 1992 and, after the sparkling process in the bottle and long aging on the lees, the Champagnes are dosed with a homemade blend or not dosed at all as Brut Nature. The production of the sparkling reality Famille Delouvin is divided into two lines: ‘Delowin Nowack’ and ‘Famille Delouvin’. The first includes Champagne of a classic style produced according to traditional techniques, while the second consists of characterful Champagnes that represent the true identity of the estate.
