Guillaume Chanudet
The small Domaine of the young producer Guillaume Chanudet crafts artisanal interpretations of the Beaujolais area with particular attention to Fleurie, one of the most prized among the 10 crus of the region. The winery was founded back in 1920 by the Chanudet family right within the commune of Fleurie, precisely on the hill of the lieu-dit 'La Madone', and since 2014, Guillaume, the fifth generation of winemakers in the family, has been leading the Domaine.
The vineyard area available to the estate of vigneron Guillaume Chanudet consists of just 3.5 hectares, exclusively reserved for the emblematic grape variety of the Beaujolais region: Gamay. The vineyards, represented by vines over 50 years old resulting from massal selection, are trained in goblet form following the principles of organic farming on soils mainly composed of the characteristic pink granite. In particular, the higher parcels are rooted in predominantly sandy soils while the lower ones are planted on more clay-rich grounds. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand and the philosophy adopted in the winery involves minimal intervention, with fermentations occurring spontaneously thanks to the natural yeasts present on the grapes and in the winemaking environment, accompanied by semi-carbonic maceration. Stainless steel tanks and cement vats are used for vinification, while some wines are subsequently aged in oak barrels.
Guillaume Chanudet's wines skillfully combine significant complexity and extraordinary smoothness, conveying in the glass all the qualities of the renowned territories from which they originate. The pride of the winery is undoubtedly the famous cru of Fleurie, with the full and juicy 'Patte du P’tit Chat' and the exceptional lieu-dit 'La Madone', not to mention the Moulin-à-Vent cru with the structured 'Les Petit Bois'. Unfortunately, Guillaume's production is very limited, comprising just 10,000 bottles produced annually.
