Madrevite
Overlooking Lake Trasimeno, precisely in the municipality of Castiglione del Lago, lies the artisanal Umbrian winery Madrevite, an authentic interpreter of this suggestive and lush territory on the border between Umbria and Tuscany. The estate was officially founded in 2003 by the Chiucchiurlotto family, which has been involved in viticulture for three generations. A cornerstone of the Chiucchiurlotto production philosophy is sustainability, understood both environmentally and economically, a value achievable through rational viticulture aimed at preserving biodiversity and the health of soil, plants, and animals.
In the 11 hectares of owned vineyards, the Madrevite estate cultivates traditional and non-traditional grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Syrah, Trebbiano Spoletino, Grechetto, and, above all, Gamay del Trasimeno, a biotype of Grenache Noir cultivated for centuries on the shores of Lake Trasimeno. All these varieties are grown without the use of synthetic chemical products on sandy and clayey soils, often rich in pebbles, at an altitude between 280 and 350 meters above sea level. The plants are then surrounded by about 50 hectares of olive groves, woods, and arable land, in a perspective of flourishing biodiversity. Only when the grapes have reached the perfect stage of ripeness is manual harvesting carried out, followed by meticulous selection of the grapes. In the winery, fermentations are entrusted solely to indigenous yeasts and take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, sometimes partially whole cluster, with soft pressing. For aging, cement or steel tanks or French oak barriques and large casks are used, depending on the wine in question.
The selection offered by the Madrevite winery consists almost exclusively of monovarietal expressions, a consequence of the Chiucchiurlotto family's desire to showcase the qualities of each cultivated grape variety, while revealing its specific affinity with the territory.
