Terre del Lagorai
Set against the majestic Dolomite peaks of Trentino, the wine estate Terre del Lagorai is dedicated to the enhancement of the enological identity of Eastern Trentino. In fact, the name of the estate derives from the Lagorai Range, an extensive mountain group that overlooks numerous valleys, such as Valsugana, Val di Fiemme, and Val di Cembra. The winery is located precisely at Castel Ivano, on the eastern side of Valsugana, an area particularly suited for sparkling wine production. Here, in 2016, a group of 8 winegrowers, represented by Germana Borgogno, Davide Capra, Stefano Dalledonne, Ezio Dandrea, Mauro Franzoni, Flavio Sandri, Carlo Staudacher, and Matteo Trentinaglia, decided to join forces to enhance the fruits of their labor and the essence of their beloved territory. The cellars are then carved within the walls of Castel Ivano, a structure dating back to the 12th century that rises on the promontory of Monte Lefre.
The Terre del Lagorai estate works with the noble varieties of Burgundian origin Chardonnay and Pinot Nero, the most suitable for high-quality sparkling wine production, alongside the genetic hybrid Kerner and the variety PIWI Solaris, obtained through progressive selections aimed at obtaining varieties resistant to the main vine diseases, with a consequent positive impact on the environment. The plants are found at altitudes between 300 and 700 meters above sea level, enjoying both the excellent exposure to the southwest and the significant temperature excursions between day and night that characterize the area. Depending on the enological goal, both stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels are used as containers for vinification and aging of the wines, always seeking the final harmony of the wine. As for the bubbles, these are produced according to the Classic Method, with refermentation in the bottle often accompanied by long rests on the lees, even for 5 years.
Whether they are still wines or sparkling wines, the latter being the pride of the production, the labels signed by Terre del Lagorai stand out for their balance and finesse, qualities that well represent the character of Valsugana.
