Vigneti Massa
Walter Massa can be defined in every way as the father and pioneer of Timorasso from the Colli Tortonesi. An independent and courageous winemaker who, since the 1970s at the helm of the family winery, has managed to change, rebuild, and successfully relaunch the enological face of an entire territory, that of the Colli Tortonesi, that small strip of Piedmontese land nestled between Monferrato and Oltrepò. The greatest merit of Walter Massa, who has become an almost legendary figure and is considered a guru and a master of the area, has been precisely that of revitalizing an indigenous white grape variety that has always been underestimated, which in the past was even at risk of extinction, Timorasso, investing heavily in it and recognizing its great potential to produce exciting wines of extraordinary longevity. Thus, the Vigneti Massa wineries have demonstrated, and still demonstrate today, how Piedmont is not only land of great reds but also home to great whites with strong aging potential.
Vigneti Massa is the name of the family-run winery, founded by the Massa ancestors in 1879, which today boasts a property of 23 hectares on the hills of Monleale, at about 300 meters above sea level. We find the most typical grape varieties of the territory: Barbera, Croatina, Freisa, but above all Timorasso, to which 10 hectares are dedicated. In line with the long family and territorial tradition, these vineyards are cultivated with scrupulous attention and peasant common sense, minimizing treatments. Contrary to all forms of bureaucracy and always going against the grain, Walter is convinced that wine is made in the vineyard and in the cellar, not with brands and documents, which is why he has chosen to not forcibly resort to denominations reported on labels, relying on his established reputation as a true artisan of wine.

However, there are also great red wines, produced with Freisa, Barbera or Croatina, in this case they are expressive and unconventional wines, the result of the mastery and creative flair of W. Massa: true enological pearls of a territory with very high potential!
