Arribas Wine Company
Arribas Wine Company was founded in 2017 in Bemposta, a small village located in the municipality of Mogadouro, in the northeast of Portugal. The choice of this location is not random: the region has a rich wine heritage, characterized by ancient vineyards and unique edaphoclimatic conditions. The winery took its first steps in a small garage, used for years as a private cellar, before finally settling in the historical part of the village. Its position on bedrock ensures cool and constant temperatures, favoring optimal winemaking. Framed within the national and regional wine context, Arribas Wine Company stands out for its simultaneously traditional and innovative approach, drawing inspiration from both the Portuguese denomination of Trás-os-Montes and the nearby Spanish DO Arribes, with which it shares many pedoclimatic and varietal characteristics.

Among the main grape varieties are Tinta Gorda, Bastardo, Serrana, and Verdelho Vermelho for the reds, while for the whites, Verdelho, Malvasia, Posto Branco, and Bastardo Branco stand out. The soils, predominantly of igneous origin with granite and granodiorite, are poor and difficult to work, located on cliffs overlooking the Douro River. The climate is characterized by long, harsh winters and scorching summers during the day but cool at night. The harvest is done manually, with the grapes transported in small crates to preserve their integrity. In the winery, the production philosophy is based on a minimalist approach, with fermentations in open tanks, the use of a vertical press, and aging in oak barrels, avoiding any invasive intervention to obtain pure and authentic wines.
