Attems

The Attems winery represents a piece of history of the wines of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Its origins date back to 1106 and by the 18th century it was already known for the production of Ribolla Gialla and Refosco. A tradition that has traversed the history of the territory, passing from the Patriarchate of Aquileia to the County of Gorizia, up to the present day. Since 2000, the ownership of the estate has passed into the hands of the Frescobaldi family, another historic name in Italian wine, which has ensured continuity in the name of tradition and excellence, without altering the face of the company. The estate is located near Capriva del Friuli, in an area of the Collio Goriziano particularly suited to viticulture and famous for high-quality production.

The estate covers a total of 44 hectares, with vineyards located in the hilly area west of Gorizia, often managed with terracing and dry stone walls. The south-facing exposures protect the vineyards from cold currents and the bora that descends from the northeast. The microclimate is temperate, also mitigated bythe influence of the sea breezes that rise from the Adriatic Sea. In the vineyards, the varieties historically present in the area are cultivated, the indigenous Ribolla Gialla and the international Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and Merlot, which have adapted very well to these lands. The vineyards are set in a natural context rich in biodiversity, with large wooded areas. Between the rows, the practice of green manuring is used to naturally maintain soil fertility, without the use of chemical substances.

From a soil perspective, within the estate, three different types of soils can be found. The area of the Isonzo is characterized by the presence of alluvial deposits, composed of pebbles, sands, and clays, which, thanks to a fairly warm climate, are suitable for the cultivation of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. In the intermediate area, located between the flat part of the Isonzo and the first hills rising towards the Collio, there are clayey soils, particularly suited for the cultivation of Pinot Grigio and Ribolla Gialla. The hilly area of the Collio ischaracterized by the presence of marly sedimentations of sandstones and limestone, the famous ponca, a poor and stony soil of ancient marine origin, which gives refined and elegant wines, marked by freshness and sapidity.
