Picariello Ciro

In 2004, Ciro Picariello and his partner Rita Guerriero decided to embark on their winemaking adventure in Summonte, just a stone's throw from Avellino. Today, Ciro, now an acclaimed winemaker of Irpinia, owns about 15 hectares of vineyards, located in the two small villages of Summonte, still home to the winery, and Montefredane. The first, precisely located near the Torre Angioina (also featured on the labels), has a unique territorial conformation with a volcanic soil, composed of rocks and clays; the vines also rise to about 650 meters in altitude, benefiting from the cooler climate of the area. The second is instead populated by vineyards located about 500 meters above sea level on a purely clay-based soil. Different areas, different climatic conditions, and different terroirs give birth to unique and original wines. What unites the two estates, however, is Ciro Picariello's meticulous care for his greenery and vines, aiming to concentrate aromas and flavors, maximizing ventilation and illumination of the bunch. Thus, insecticides, herbicides, or pesticides are banned in the vineyard, a partial grassing is carried out, and nature can thus express itself spontaneously.

The Ciro Picariello winery cultivates the most typical grapes of the area: Fiano, primarily, followed by Greco, Falanghina, and other red varieties such as Piedirosso, Aglianico, and Sciascianoso. Clearly, Fiano di Avellino is the producer's most cherished grape, grown in both plots, and used to create his famous and unmissable whites, particularly appreciated by critics and industry magazines. In the winery, however, steel tanks are used, both for the vinification phases and for the final aging of the wine.

Ciro Picariello wines are great interpreters of the denomination, endowed with a typically territorial breath and born from a sustainable and artisanal approach. Endowed with a rocky minerality, a sharp freshness, and an energetic and rich personality, the Fiano di Avellino wines from the Ciro Picariello winery represent the most authentic reflection of Irpinia.
