Quenardel
J.H Quenardel is a family-run Maison of Champagne based in Ludes, a Premier Cru village located at the foot of the Montagne de Reims, land of great bubbles. The origins of this sparkling wine house date back to 1906, when Henri Quenardel, grandfather of the current owner and namesake Henri Quenardel, decided to produce and market the first bottles of Champagne from grapes harvested from the family-owned vineyards. In the 1930s, Henri was joined by his son Jean, while the entry of the second Henri into the family estate dates back to the 1970s. Through various generational transitions, the winery has expanded its production volumes and modernized its production techniques and equipment, while maintaining that family character that has distinguished it for over 100 years. Today, Henri is joined by his son Jean-Charles, who represents the fourth winegrowing generation of the family, dedicated to continuing the prestigious winemaking history of the Quenardel.
Within its 18 hectares of vineyards, adopting a environmentally friendly approach, evidenced by the certifications “Viticulture Durable en Champagne – VDC” and “Haute Vauleur Environnementale – HVE”, the Maison J.H Quenardel cultivates the classic champenoise varieties, namely Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. The vineyards are grassed, thus excluding the use of herbicides, while the grape yields are limited to favor the quality of production. The sparkling bases are vinified in stainless steel tanks, with subsequent refermentation occurring in the bottle according to the prestigious Metodo Champenoise, associated with long aging on the lees that can sometimes exceed 60 months. The final dosages are quite varied, ranging from Extra Brut to Demi-Sec.
